BBB Scam Alert: Don’t Click On That Delivery Text
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WHKY) – Consumers are being warned about delivery scams involving fake text messages, emails, and phone calls.
The Better Business Bureau says scammers often impersonate major carriers, including USPS, UPS, and FedEx. The messages may claim a package needs updated delivery preferences, has an incomplete address, or is being held until a fee is paid. Links can lead to fake websites designed to steal personal information or money.
The BBB recommends never clicking on delivery links in unexpected messages. Instead, go directly to the carrier’s official website or use the retailer’s tracking tools.
Consumers should also track their purchases, request a signature for valuable packages, and have deliveries sent to a workplace, trusted neighbor, or secure locker when possible.
The BBB warns that not all delivery scams happen online. Package thieves may target doorsteps, apartment lobbies, and even follow delivery trucks.
Consumers should inspect packages for damage or tampering and contact the seller immediately if something appears wrong.
