Avery County Man Charged With Fleeing From Police In Burke County
25-year-old Wyatt Lane Clark of Newland was arrested Friday (March 24) by Morganton Public Safety Officers. He’s charged with felony flee to elude arrest with a motor vehicle. In addition, Clark is charged with reckless driving with wanton disregard, driving while license revoked, and speeding in excess of 15 miles-per-hour above the posted speed limit.
On Thursday (March 23), officers with the Morganton department of Public Safety were conducting a checking station at 1150-A North Green Street in the Freedom Plaza. Officers made contact with a yellow Ford Focus sports car that pulled up to the checking station.
The driver, identified as Wyatt Lane Clark, did not have a valid drivers license in his possession due to it being revoked. Clark was asked to pull in to the parking area to be issued a citation for driving while license revoked. Moments later, Clark began revving his engine and took off.
Clark’s vehicle traveled across a grass median, through a ditch and onto N.C. 181 north where a pursuit was initiated. Officers pursued Clark, but were unable to catch him. He was later arrested by officers in Avery County and then turned over to Burke County authorities Friday at the Brown Mountain Overlook on N.C. 181. His vehicle was also seized due to the “run and you’re done” law.

Clark was placed in the Burke County Jail under $15,000 secured bond. He remained in jail as of earlier today (March 27). A District Court appearance was scheduled today in Morganton.
