Authorities Urge Caution When Visiting Popular Tourist Attraction

Officials remind people to use caution if they visit the Wilson Creek area during the Labor Day weekend. Caldwell County Sheriff’s Deputy John Runion, who oversees the Wilson Creek patrols, said in a news release “Over Labor Day, we will increase the number of deputies patrolling Wilson Creek. Our focus will be on keeping the roadway clear for emergency vehicles, as well as those who live in the immediate area, and enforcing alcohol and open fire violations, as well as any other violation of the law.”

Visitors should remember the following:

Do not park in the roadway or anywhere that blocks traffic. Cars blocking traffic will be towed. Bring a trash bag and take your trash out with you. Dispose of all trash in proper receptacles. Keep in mind that cell phones have little or no reception in the area.

Do not build campfires. Follow the North Carolina State Wildlife Resources Commission rules for fishing. Remember alcoholic beverages are not permitted.  Buckle children in child safety seats. Use caution when swimming/playing in the river. Powerful currents can easily sweep you off your feet. Follow the designated trails when hiking.
