Assistant City Manager Named In Newton

The City of Newton announced the hiring of Brandon Holland as Assistant City Manager. Holland comes to Newton with more than a decade of experience managing municipal governments and a proven track record of driving advances in financial management, economic growth, capital improvements, and leadership development.

Holland most recently held the position of senior planner and project manager with Destination by Design, a multidisciplinary economic development firm in Boone that plans, develops, brands, and promotes destination-quality recreation and tourism assets. Prior to his time with Destination by Design, Holland managed the North Carolina towns of Biscoe, Ayden, and Murfreesboro, garnering accolades as a collaborative executive, motivational leader, and strategic relationship manager.

In Newton, Holland will work closely with residents, the business community, city council members, department directors, and City Manager Sean A. Hovis to implement strategic initiatives, enhance service provision, and give new perspective to ongoing projects.

Holland is a graduate of of Appalachian State University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in political science with a minor in communication and a Master of Public Administration degree. He currently serves as president of the Appalachian State Local Government Alumni Association.
He is a credentialed manager through the International City/County Managers Association, and he holds certificates from the School of Government at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill through both the Public Executive Leadership Academy and Leading for Results.

He is the host of the Lead Well podcast, a leadership and personal development show focused on inspiring students and leaders to be their best.
Holland’s first day as Newton’s Assistant City Manager will be June 10.
