App’s Studney Earns First Sun Belt Conference Field Athlete of the Week Honor

App State sophomore Ava Studney was named Sun Belt Women’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week by the league on Thursday. The accolade is Studney’s first career Field Athlete of the Week nod and the Mountaineers’ first of the 2023-24 campaign.

Studney clinched first in the women’s unseeded pole vault with a personal best clearance of 4.00m (13′ 1.5″) at the Virginia Tech Doc Hale Meet on Feb. 2-3. Her clearance tied Taylor Drummond’s 2017 mark for second in the App State all-time list.

The Waxhaw, N.C. native leads the Sun Belt and ranks 17th in the Southeast Region in the women’s pole vault. She also ranks 78th nationally.

The Mountaineers will close out the indoor regular season at the VMI Winter Classic in Lexington, Va. on Feb. 9-10.
