App’s Spillers Named Sun Belt Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week

App State junior forward Tre’Von Spillers has been named the Sun Belt Player of the Week after two stellar outings in the Mountaineers’ wins against Georgia State and Coastal Carolina at the Holmes Center.

Spillers led the Mountaineers in scoring both games last week, scoring a season-best 23 points and grabbing a season-high 13 rebounds against Georgia State last Wednesday. Three days later, he scored 18 points on 9-of-11 shooting, fell one rebound shy of another double-double and blocked two shots against Coastal Carolina.

For the week, Spillers averaged 20.5 points per game and 11 rebounds while shooting 19-for-26 from the field (73.1 percent).

The Charleston, S.C., native has been a force on both ends of the court since conference play started, as the 6-foot-7 forward currently sits in the top 15 in both scoring and rebounding through App State’s first seven Sun Belt games. Spillers also finds himself in the top five nationally in field goal percentage, shooting at a remarkable 65 percent for the season.

Spillers leads the Mountaineers in scoring so far this season with an average of 13.7 points. He has also posted five double-doubles, which are the most double-doubles posted by a Mountaineer in a single season since Isaac Johnson tallied eight in 2019-20.

The next time Spillers and the Mountaineers will take the floor is Thursday at the Holmes Center against rival Georgia Southern. Thursday’s game will be a “Black Out,” as fans are encouraged to wear black to the game. Tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m., and the game can be streamed on ESPN+.
