A sixth member of App State’s wrestling team has won SoCon Wrestler of the Week honors.

Caleb Smith capped a 14-0 dual season and 8-0 run through his SoCon duals with three more victories Sunday as the regular season ended for the 20th-ranked Mountaineers, who captured another SoCon regular season title with an 8-0 league record.

In a battle of unbeaten SoCon teams, Smith started the App State-Campbell dual with a 4-1 win against 32nd-ranked Anthony Molton and followed that with a 9-3 victory against Presbyterian’s Dominic Chavez. Smith ended his day with a second-period pin of Davidson’s Hale Robinson.

Smith broke a 1-1 tie against Molton on a takedown with 25 seconds left and used riding time to post a 4-1 win in the ranked showdown. Chavez had a 4-0 record in SoCon duals — with a 10-3 victory over Molton — prior to Smith’s win in his second match Sunday immediately after the emotional Campbell dual had ended. Smith improved to 23-5 on the year by earning his fifth pin of the season in his win against Davidson.

Smith joins Jon Jon Millner, Will Miller, Will Formato, Sean Carter and Ethan Oakley as weekly winners for the 2022-23 season.
