The Mid-American Conference announced App State senior Meghan Smart as the Offensive Player of the Week Tuesday.
Smart produced an impressive five-goal display this weekend in the sweep of Bellarmine, including a hat trick-effort on Saturday.
“I’m extremely proud of Meg’s performance this past weekend,” head coach Meghan Dawson said. “She has been a force on attack for us, and all of her hard work was shown this past weekend. I’m also excited for our team as well, because an honor like this takes an entire team effort.”
With 11 goals on the season, Smart is now the sole leader in the MAC in goals scored this spring. She is averaging .92 goals per game and has also racked up a total of 26 points to lead the offensive attack for the 7-5 Mountaineers.
Smart’s Offensive Player of the Week Award is the first for the Mountaineers this season, and the second of her career. She won her first MAC offensive honors in September of 2019.
Seven goals in Saturday’s win, three from Smart, marked a team season high and the most goals scored in a single-game win since 1982 in which App State defeated Wake Forest 8-1.
