App’s Carver Earns Sun Belt Women’s Basketball Player of the Week Honor

App State sophomore Emily Carver garnered Sun Belt Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week accolades, the league announced on Tuesday. Carver is the first Mountaineer to receive the honor this season after impressive performances at James Madison and Georgia Southern.

Against JMU on Jan. 12, Carver recorded a career and team-high 22 points, which included a career-high five 3-pointers. She also recorded a pair of rebounds and a pair of steals against the Dukes. Returning to the court on Jan. 14, Carver fell one point shy of her new career high, netting 21 points against Georgia Southern. Carver pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds to mark her second double-double in five games and went 5-of-6 from the 3-point line and 6-of-8 from the charity stripe.

The Asheville, N.C. native has been the Mountaineers’ top scorer in three games and top rebounder in seven games this season. In league-only play, Carver ranks fourth in the Sun Belt for treys made per game, averaging 2.8, and stands fifth in the 3-point percentage category (.405). She also ranks eighth for steals and scoring, as well as ninth for rebounding.
