App’s Allesch Named to Academic All-District Team

App State women’s basketball senior Alexia Allesch has been named to the CoSIDA Women’s Basketball Academic All-District 3 First Team, announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve who has participated in at least 50 percent of the team’s competitions and is at least a sophomore both academically and athletically.

It’s the second straight year that an App State women’s basketball student-athlete has made Academic All-District, after Lainey Gosnell earned that distinction as well as Academic All-America a year ago.

After transferring from Seton Hall as a graduate student in the offseason, Allesch burst onto the scene for the Mountaineers and was tabbed the Sun Belt’s Newcomer of the Year and second-team all-conference after an impressive first season in Boone.

One of four Sun Belt players to average a double-double in league play, Allesch averaged 15.7 points and 10.5 rebounds in conference games and ranked top eight in league play in scoring (eighth), rebounding (third), 3-pointers per game (second) and blocked shots (fourth). Her 10 double-doubles for the season are tied for second-most among Sun Belt players.

In the classroom, the New Jersey native holds a 3.90 grade point average while pursuing an MBA in international business at App State. She graduated from Seton Hall last year with a 3.84 GPA and a bachelor’s degree in business management. She was an Academic Merit Award and BIG EAST All-Academic honoree while also being Seton Hall’s BIG EAST Scholar-Athlete of the Year nominee last year.
