Appalchian State Softball Drops Rubber Match Against Louisiana

The App State softball team (26-20, 8-11 Sun Belt) dropped the series finale against Louisiana (34-11, 17-4 Sun Belt) by a final score of 10-1 on Sunday afternoon. The Ragin’ Cajuns went yard in each of the first three innings, jumping out to an early lead that they never surrendered.

Louisiana gained the early advantage after Karly Heath hit a solo home run in the top of the first inning. A two-run homer from Alexa Langeliers pushed the advantage to 3-0 before Heath’s second solo bomb of the day put the Ragin’ Cajuns up 4-0 after three innings of play.

The Mountaineers got on the board in the bottom of the fourth after McKenzie McCullen laced a single through the right side to score Kayt Houston.

After adding one run in the sixth, a two-run homer from Stormy Kotzelnick highlighted a five-run seventh for the Ragin’ Cajuns.

McCullen picked up App State’s lone RBI of the day via her fourth-inning single. Emily Parrott, Kati Waalk, Katelynn Crowe and Houston all contributed with one hit as well.

Taylor Nichols got the start, giving up nine hits and striking out three batters. Kaylie Northrop came in for relief, tallying one punch out.

App State returns to action on Tuesday when they close out non-conference play against North Carolina A&T. The Mountaineers have won six consecutive games against non-conference opponents. First pitch for the midweek contest against the Aggies is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. ET.
