Appalachian State’s Houston Named Sun Belt Conference Softball Player of the Week

App State’s Kayt Houston has been named the Sun Belt Conference’s Softball Player of the Week following a stellar five-game run for the Mountaineers.

During a week in which App State opened its home schedule with a win against Western Carolina and won a weekend Sun Belt road series against ULM, Houston batted .625 with four home runs, nine RBIs, seven extra-base hits, six runs scored, a .700 on-base percentage, a 1.563 slugging percentage and two outfield assists.

A sophomore right fielder from Rock Hill, S.C., Houston tied App State’s single-game record by hitting three home runs in a 6-3 victory at ULM to open their series. She also threw out a runner at third after one run scored on a bases-loaded single in the sixth inning.

Houston had six hits, including a two-run homer, during a midweek doubleheader against Western Carolina. She totaled five RBIs in a 9-2 win and threw a runner out at the plate in the second game.

Houston is batting .394 this season with six homers, six outfield assists, 21 RBIs and eight doubles.
