Appalachian State Women’s Tennis Gets Sweep Over Duquesne

A return home was just what App State Tennis needed.

Following a challenging four-match road swing, App State did not lose a set Friday on its way to a 4-0 win against Duquesne at the Deer Valley Athletic Club on Friday.

“I think we played well today, had good focus, mental toughness and energy,” head coach Hannah Fetters said. “We’re looking forward to our next two matches this weekend.”

The Mountaineers (4-4) came out strong against the Dukes (3-7), clinching the doubles point by way of a 6-1 win from the court 1 duo of Savannah Dada-Mascoll and Naledi Manyube, a 6-1 win by “Brooke Squared” – Brooke Demerath and Brooke Gruber – on court 3, and a 6-2 victory by Maggie Pate and Taya Powell on court 2.

It was more of the same in singles.

The first Mountaineer to win her singles match was Powell with a 6-1, 6-1 triumph on court 2.

Dada-Mascoll extended her singles win streak to five straight outings with a 6-3, 6-1 victory on court 1.

Pate clinched the App State win when she powered to a 6-2, 6-3 win on court 3. She has now won her singles match in six of the last seven outings.
