Appalachian State Women’s Tennis Earns Postseason Berth

Making a national postseason tournament appearance for the second straight year, App State Tennis is the No. 5 seed in this year’s UTR NIT Championship.

The Mountaineers, who are 15-10 after reaching the Sun Belt Tournament final, will face No. 4 seed Liberty in the first round Monday in Bradenton, Florida. This is the second time in school history that App State has made back-to-back postseason appearances.

This announcement comes days after the Mountaineers finished their memorable Sun Belt Tournament run, becoming the lowest seeded team to make the championship match since 2019. Seeded seventh, App State beat James Madison, Marshall and Troy en route to a championship appearance with Old Dominion on April 28.

App State was a No. 4 seed in the inaugural NIT event last year. The Mountaineers went 1-1, falling 4-2 to Wyoming in the first round before concluding the tournament with a 4-0 sweep over UC San Diego.

Seeded No. 2 in its league tournament, Liberty (17-6) fell in the Conference USA final to top-seeded FIU by a 4-1 score. Liberty has three players with at least 20 wins this season.

App State’s Savannah Dada-Mascoll has won 20 singles matches this season. In her last outing, the Yorkshire, England, native claimed redemption against Old Dominion’s Sofia Johnson by prevailing 6-2, 6-2 against the league’s player of the year to secure App State’s second point in its 4-2 loss to the eventual Sun Belt champion.

The UTR NIT matches will be streamed on Amazon Prime Video. The livestream link will be provided via appstatesports.edu.
