App State women’s golf opened the 2023 spring season with a sixth-place finish at the Oyster Shuck Match Play event on Tuesday in Charleston, SC.

After dropping a first-round match to eventual runner-up and top-85 program Western Carolina by a 3.5-1.5 score, App State advanced to the fifth-place match with a 3.0-2.0 win against Radford on Monday afternoon. The Mountaineers lost 4.5-0.5 to Delaware State.

Hannah Wang went 2-0 on Monday, including a 20-hole victory against Radford. Layla Meric won in 22 holes, and Meghan Mitchell earned a 1-up victory as App State took three of five matches from the Highlanders.

Wang had a 5&3 victory against Western Carolina, and Braelyn Pippin halved her match. Jacquelyn Taylor halved her match against Delaware State, meaning all five Mountaineer players produced points in the event.

James Madison beat Western Carolina in the title match.

App State returns to action next month at the HCU Husky Invitational in Houston from March 13-14.
