Appalachian State Women’s Golf Finish Tied for Fifth at Georgia State Invitational

Led by a third-place performance from Jacquelyn Taylor — the program’s best individual finish in a spring event since 2018 — App State Women’s Golf tied for fifth place among 16 teams at the rain-shortened Georgia State Invitational.

Thirty-six holes were played Monday. Play resumed Tuesday but was quickly suspended by inclement weather before the final round was canceled.

Taylor followed an opening-round 75 with a 1-over 73 for a 4-over total of 148 that left her one shot behind second place and five behind individual medalist Rebecca Brink from Memphis. Taylor had three bogeys and two birdies in her second round.

Troy finished as the team champion at 17 over. App State’s 40-over total (311-305—616) tied Little Rock’s 36-hole score, and it was the program’s highest finish in a similarly sized field since a fifth-place showing among 16 teams at the 2019 Low Country Intercollegiate.

The Mountaineers also got top-20 finishes from Ona Lukes (75-78—153, 9 over) and individual Braelyn Pippin (80-73—153, 9 over). Layla Meric’s second-round 74 contributed to a strong team score from App State.

Hannah Wang and Sara Adams also were part of App State’s lineup.

App State resumes action next week, when it hosts the Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate in Morganton, N.C., on Monday and Tuesday.
