App State women’s golf finished ninth at the Bama Beach Bash Sunday.
The Mountaineers closed the event with their best team round of the season, a 307. App State posted a 936 final team score.
“We took away some good things this week,” head coach Heather Brown said. “It seems we put ourselves behind early in all three rounds, but we battled back. Kayla and Abby played well. We are just a few better decisions and stronger putting away from completing a tournament together.”
South Alabama clinched the team title with a 891 team score. South Dakota State’s Teresa Toscano won the individual crown at 3-under-par.
Kayla Ward led the Mountaineer starting five by posting a three-round career low of 230. Ward also carded the lowest individual round of the season, a second-round career low of 73.
Ward finished tied for 21st on the player leaderboard. She was one of only three golfers to record double digit birdies.
Abby Bolt finished just one strike behind Ward to place tied for 27th. Bolt cut two strokes per day and closed with a final-round 75, and was the only Mountaineer to shoot in the 70’s all three rounds of competition.
Sarah Hardin ended with a 238 final event score, placing tied for 44th individually.
Melany Chong also improved each day and finished with a 239 54-hole total. Carrie Catherine Ganim rounded out the App State starting five placing tied for 65th behind a three-round event total of 244.
The Mountaineers will be back on the links once again on March 29-30 at the Georgia State Invitational from Atlanta, Georgia.
