LaFon appeared in 31 games off the bench during the 2022-23 campaign, netting 65 points and 59 rebounds. She went 51.9 percent from the field and recorded a season-high seven rebounds against Arkansas State on Jan. 28.
During her high school career, LaFon was a two-time All-District and First-Team Ohio Valley Conference honoree. She also earned an All-Ohio Special Mention and led the conference in rebounds. She also played volleyball.
LaFon intends on pursuing a degree in digital journalism and would like to become a sports reporter.
Why LaFon Chose App State: “I chose App State because of the way the staff cares about their players on and off the court, creating a family atmosphere.”
Elderkin on LaFon: “We are thrilled to welcome Samantha LaFon to our Appalachian State family. Sam brings us not only experience post play in the Sun Belt Conference, but also a hunger to be a part of something bigger than herself. Her competitive drive to be the best student athlete will impact our program immediately.”
LaFon joins transfers J’Mani Ingram and Rylan Moffitt, as well as true freshmen Lexi Bugajski and MaKenzie Drout as part of the Mountaineers’ 2023-24 signing class.
