Appalachian State Softball Receives Sun Belt Tournament Bid

The Sun Belt Conference announced the 2022 Softball Championship bracket Saturday evening and App State received the sixth seed after posting a 10-15 record in league play during the regular season.

The Mountaineers open the tournament on Wednesday, May 11, taking on the third-seeded Texas State Bobcats. First pitch is set for 4:00 p.m. CT in Mobile, Ala. During the regular season, App State took the series in Texas, falling in the first game 5-0 before reeling off a 3-2 win in the second game and 4-1 victory in the series finale.

Regular season champions Louisiana (41-11, 23-4 Sun Belt) claimed the top seed followed by tournament host South Alabama as the second seed. Texas State grabbed the third spot while Troy was fourth and UT Arlington fifth. No. 7 seed Georgia State, No. 8 seed ULM, No. 9 seed Coastal Carolina and No. 10 seed Georgia Southern round out the bottom four teams.

All 10 softball teams will participate in this year’s tournament vying for an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. The conference’s bottom-four seeds face off in a single-elimination round on Tuesday, May 10. Four games will be played on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. The winner of the morning game on Saturday, will play in the title game later that afternoon.
