Appalachian State Softball Blanked by South Alabama

App State softball fell in its series finale at South Alabama, 1-0, on Sunday.

The Mountaineers held the Jaguars scoreless after the first inning and allowed no runners on base for three of the last five innings.

Delani Buckner punched her third and fourth strikeouts of the day in the fourth inning. The junior ended the frame with the 200th strikeout of her career. She pitched six innings and allowed only five hits and one earned run on Sunday.

Offensively, the Mountaineers put a runner on base in all but one inning, including the leadoff hitter of each of the first three frames. Addie Wray led with two hits, and Kayt Houston recorded a hit for the 50th time this season.

App State also saw singles from Sidney Martin and Taylor Thorp, increasing Martin’s hit streak to five games.

The Black and Gold will return to action on Tuesday at Western Carolina. That contest will be played at 4 p.m. on ESPN+.
