App State women’s golf has landed Mary Sears Brown as a 2020 fall signee.
“We are excited to welcome Mary Sears as a Mountaineer,” head coach Heather Brown said. “I know her solid work ethic on and off the course will speak for itself in the next four years.”
Brown is a North Carolina native from the town of Wake Forest and attended Heritage High School. As a junior in 2019, she led the Huskies to a NAC-VI Conference title and has earned all-conference honors all three years.
In six conference matches a season ago, Brown was a four-time medalist averaging 37.83. She was named the MaxPreps Player of the Match in three separate 2019 events for Heritage. As a team, the Huskies placed first in four of the six conference events.
Brown has qualified for the NCHSAA State Championships as a sophomore and as a junior, finishing tied for 13th her junior season. She was also named team captain and team MVP.
Due to COVID-19, her senior season with the Huskies has been moved to March. However, in 2020, she has posted a total of three top-10 efforts including tying for third at the CGA Carolinas Collegiate Showcase.
“For me, App was a perfect balance between academics and athletics,” Mary Sears Brown said. “I have formed a good connection with coach Brown and just knew that it was a program I would love to be a part of.”
Brown will be eligible for collegiate competition in fall 2021.
