Appalachian State Football Has Two West Division Sun Belt Opponents Announced

The Sun Belt Conference announced Thursday that App State Football’s two West Division league opponents for the 2024 season are South Alabama, which will travel to Kidd Brewer Stadium, and Louisiana, which will host the Mountaineers in Lafayette, La.

All 12 of App State’s regular-season opponents are now official. The dates for the Mountaineers’ eight conference games will be announced no later than March 1.

Each of the conference’s 14 programs plays one home game and one away game against a cross-divisional foe each season — and will play every team in the other division at least once every four years. In addition to its six East Division games in the new-look Sun Belt, App State faced two West Division teams in 2022 (Troy, Texas State) and 2023 (ULM, Southern Miss).

South Alabama joins ETSU, Liberty, Georgia State, James Madison and Old Dominion as teams scheduled to play in Boone during the 2024 season. The Mountaineers open the season against ETSU on Aug. 31, then play back-to-back road games at Clemson (Sept. 7) and East Carolina (Sept. 14). The nonconference finale, a home game against Liberty, is scheduled for Sept. 28.

Along with Clemson, ECU and Louisiana, App State’s road schedule in 2024 also includes visits to East Division foes Coastal Carolina, Georgia Southern and Marshall.

Ten of App State’s 11 FBS opponents in 2024 made a bowl game in 2023.
