Appalachian State Football Garners Four Academic All-District Selections

Four members of the 2023 App State football team have been named Academic All-District selections by the College Sports Communicators organization, with two advancing as finalists to be candidates for CSC Academic All-America recognition.

Kyle Arnholt, Jackson Greene, Michael Hetzel and Eli Wilson made the FBS Academic All-District team that was announced after the Mountaineers wrapped up a 9-4 season with a Cure Bowl victory.

Greene, who earned a management degree in December while maintaining a 3.72 GPA, and Wilson, who earned an undergraduate degree in December as a double major in management and supply chain management while maintaining a 3.61 GPA, are both Academic All-America finalists. On the field, Greene was named a third-team All-American by the College Football Network as a special teamer with nine tackles on kickoff/punt coverage, while Wilson was a second-team All-Sun Belt selection as a tight end who caught five touchdown passes in 2023.

Hetzel, who carries a 3.62 GPA as a double major (accounting, finance and banking), played in all 14 games and recorded his first career touchdown catch in the win against Marshall. Arnholt, a history major with a 3.58 GPA, appeared in all 12 games and made seven starts at linebacker.

First-team, second-team and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced Jan. 23.
