Appalachian State Field Hockey Wins Again Over Bellarmine

App State field hockey captured its fourth straight win Sunday with a 6-1 victory over Bellarmine.

The Mountaineers (7-5, 4-4 MAC) outscored the Knights 13-3 for the weekend series sweep. The sweep of Bellarmine marked back-to-back series sweeps for the Mountaineers.

Both Meghan Smart and Veerle Van Heertum found the back of the cage twice Sunday. Smart recorded five goals over the course of the weekend, improving her goal tally to 11, and is now the sole leader in the Mid-American Conference for goals scored this spring season.

Pauline Mangold and Carli Ciocco also scored Sunday to give the Mountaineers six goals on the day. Offensively, App State recorded a season-high 35 shot attempts, 21 shots on goal.

Defensively, the Black and Gold held the Knights to a total of three shots Sunday, five shots for the series. All three shot opportunities Sunday came in the fourth quarter as Ballarmine got on the board in the closing seconds.

App State will be back in action April 16-17 and on the road to battle Miami (9-1, 6-0 MAC). Friday’s first touch is set for 2 p.m., and Saturday’s official start time is scheduled for 1 p.m. in Oxford, Ohio.
