Appalachian State Field Hockey Blanked by Kent State

App State field hockey suffered a 1-0 setback at Kent State in a defensive battle Saturday.

Defensively, the Mountaineers (3-5, 2-4 MAC) held the Golden Flashes (5-1, 3-1) to single-digit shot attempts, nine, and only four shots on goal. The Black and Gold would offensively match Kent State with nine shots of their own Saturday.

Friederike Stegen and Veerle Van Heertum fired five of the nine Mountaineer shot attempts.

Kent State’s eventual game-winning goal occurred midway through the first quarter from leading scorer Clara Rodriguez. App State played with an empty net for the final five minutes of play but was unable to tie and force overtime.

For the first time this spring season, App State has dropped back-to-back contests.

The Mountaineers will regroup and be back in action April 2-3 on the road at MAC opponent Ohio. Friday’s matchup is scheduled for 1 p.m., and Saturday’s first touch is set for 1:30 p.m. at Pruitt Field from Athens, Ohio.
