Appalachian State Cross Country to Open Season September 18

App State men’s and women’s cross country will open the 2020 season by hosting the Mountains to Sea Open on Friday, Sept. 18 at the Don Kennedy Trails at State Farm Fields.

The women’s 5K race is slated for a 5 p.m. start, followed by the men’s 6.4K or 8K at 5:30 p.m.

In accordance with North Carolina’s current Safer at Home Phase 2.5 executive order, no spectators will be permitted at the meet.

Head coach Michael Curcio welcomes back a strong men’s squad that is the preseason pick to repeat as Sun Belt champions. The Mountaineers landed five all-conference honorees last season, led by first-team honorees Isaac Benz and Ryan Brown, en route to the program’s second Sun Belt title in the last three seasons.

On the women’s side, the Black and Gold were chosen to finish second in the 2020 preseason poll. Curcio welcomes back Izzy Evely and welcomes in transfer Lisha Van Onselen, who earned second-team All-Sun Belt honors last season for Coastal Carolina.

Due to COVID-19, the fall sports schedule remains fluid. All dates and times are subject to change.
