Appalachian State Baseball’s Zamora Named Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week

App State second baseman Joseph Zamora has been named the Sun Belt Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.

Zamora led the Mountaineers to a 3-1 week, highlighted by a series win over No. 13 Coastal Carolina, marking the first time the Mountaineers have won a series against a top-15 opponent since the 2012 team took two games from seventh-ranked LSU on its way to setting the program wins record.

On the week, Zamora batted .556 (10-for-18) with four doubles, a triple and 10 RBIs. In Saturday’s 16-8 comeback victory over the Chanticleers, Zamora belted a bases-clearing double as part of a three-hit, five-RBI performance.

The Miami, Fla., native joined the Mountaineers this season as a transfer from Miami Dade College. In 20 starts this season, Zamora is batting .288 with 21 hits and 20 RBIs and is reaching base at a .409 clip.

Zamora becomes the first Mountaineer to receive a weekly award this season and the first to do so since CJ Boyd took home Player of the Week honors last May.

The Mountaineers are back in action this week as they host the Marshall Thundering Herd Thursday through Saturday. Tickets can be purchased here.
