App State’s Wood Named to Second Team All-Conference

App State forward Izzi Wood has earned second team All-Sun Belt Conference the league announced on Monday.

A native of Hickory, N.C., Wood enjoyed a career-year for the Mountaineers, scoring a personal-best seven goals on the season, while adding a career-high three assists – totaling 17 points for the Black & Gold. She is the first Mountaineer since Kat Greer in 2018 to collect All-Conference recognition.

Wood tested opposing goalkeepers early and often throughout the campaign, leading the Sun Belt with 78 shots and 33 shots on goal. Her seven goals ranked fifth in the Sun Belt, while her five game-winning goals were tied for the league lead and ranked tied for seventh in the nation. She is also sixth in the country in shots-per-game, at 4.59.

With her impressive year, Wood also began working her way into the App State record books. Wood’s 17 points this season are tied for ninth most in a single-season in program history, while her 78 shots are second-most in a single year. Wood also ranks ninth all-time with 142 career shots, while her 15 career goals are also tied for ninth most in program history.

After missing the 2021 season with a torn ACL, Wood has returned to score 13 goals over the subsequent two seasons and plans to return to the Mountaineers for one more season next fall, while working towards her MBA.

Wood has helped the Mountaineers to their best conference finish in program history (3rd place) and their most wins since 2018 (9). App State has earned a bye into the quarterfinals of the Sun Belt Tournament, where they will face fifth-seeded James Madison on Wednesday, Nov. 1 at 7:30 p.m. ET in Foley, Ala. The match will be broadcast on ESPN+.
