App State senior Oliver Wilson-Cook snagged the 2023 campaign’s first Sun Belt Conference Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week honor, the league announced on Wednesday.
Wilson-Cook earned the honor after clocking an 8K time of 24:28.4 to place seventh individually at the Firetower Project Run in Boone, N.C. on Sept. 1. He also helped the Mountaineers to a second-place team finish at the meet. Wilson-Cook’s time was five seconds off from his 8K personal best of 24:23.1, which was set at the 2022 Live in Lou Cross Country Classic.
The Mountaineers will be back in action on Sept. 15 at the Covered Bridge Open at the Don Kennedy Trails at State Farm in Boone. The women’s 5K is slated for 10 a.m. with the men’s 8K to follow at 10:40 a.m.
