App State’s Forrest Named to Preseason Sun Belt Men’s Basketball Team

App State senior men’s basketball guard Justin Forrest has been named Preseason First Team All-Sun Belt, the league announced Wednesday.

Forrest is coming off a season that saw him land First Team All-Sun Belt honors after averaging a team-high 17.3 points and dishing out a team-best 91 assists. His scoring average ranked third in the conference last season.

During the 2019-20 campaign, he poured in 553 points, which was the 13th most in single season program history. Forrest earned Sun Belt Player of the Week honors twice and was also tabbed as the Lou Henson Award National Player of the Week for his efforts for games played Dec. 16 to Dec. 22.

Forrest has appeared in 95 games in his career and has poured in 1,484 points, which ranks 14th all-time. He owns a career average of 15.6 points and has reached double figures 75 times.

App State returns nine players from last season’s team that posted 18 wins, which was the most for the program since 2009-10. The Mountaineers will tip the season on Nov. 25 at South Carolina State.
