App State junior Jada Branch landed 13th overall in the women’s triple jump to close out competition at the NCAA East Preliminary Round in Bloomington, Ind. on Saturday.
Recording a personal best leap of 12.90m (42′ 4″), Branch finished first in her flight and recorded the highest finish for a Mountaineer at the NCAA East Prelim since Rhonda White in 2004. White holds the App State program record in the women’s outdoor triple jump with a leap of 13.18m (43′ 3″), set in 2003.
The Stafford, Va. native entered the competition ranked 29th in the NCAA East Region, having qualified with her previous personal best mark of 12.86m (42′ 2.25″), which she recorded at the Duke Invitational on April 7. She caps the season ranked fourth in the App State all-time list for the event and earned a Second-Team All-Sun Belt nod after her silver performance at the Sun Belt Championships.
On Thursday, fellow junior Taylor Smith placed 26th overall and fourth in her flight in the women’s long jump, recording a leap of 5.88m (19′ 3.5″). Smith entered the competition ranked 46th in the NCAA East Region and qualified on her personal best mark of 6.11m (20′ 0.5″), set at the Sun Belt Championships (May 12-14).
