App State’s Alston Earns Second Team All-Sun Belt Conference

App State senior Faith Alston has earned Second-Team All-SBC honors for her efforts on the court this season, the league announced Monday.

Starting all 30 games during the regular season, Alston has been the Mountaineers’ top scorer, averaging 18.2 points per game and scoring double figures in 27 of 30 games. The Centerville, Va. native shot 78% from the line and 40% from the field, and leads the team in assists (averaging 4.8 per contest) and steals (averaging 1.8 per contest).

Alston reached her 1,000th career point on Jan. 20 against Georgia Southern, becoming the 28th Mountaineer to reach the milestone in program history. She totaled 1,195 career points, netting 546 points this season alone. She also recorded a career-high 31 points against Mercer on Dec. 21 and a career-high 11 assists against Georgia State on Feb. 17. Over the course of the season, Alston has tallied three double-doubles.

In the rankings, Alston stands second in the SBC in the assists, assists per game, and free throws categories for the season. She ranks 11th nationally in the free throws category. Alston rounds out the top-five in the league for points and points per game, ranking 35th in the NCAA for total points on the season. She also rounded out the top five in the league for total steals on the season.

No. 9 seed App State will open play in the Sun Belt Women’s Basketball Championship in Pensacola, Fla. on Wednesday with a second round clash against No. 8 seed Georgia State at 11:30 a.m. CT (12:30 p.m. ET). The game will be available to stream on ESPN+.
