App State Wrestling’s Floyd Fares Well at US Open Wrestling Championship
App State freshman Carson Floyd, representing Boone RTC, earned All-America recognition by placing eighth in his U20 freestyle bracket at the US Open Wrestling Championship event.
Competing at 92 kg, Floyd won three matches in Las Vegas. He opened the competition with wins by scores of 10-0 and 12-2 before dropping into the consolation bracket. He clinched a top-eight finish and All-America status by overcoming a 4-0 deficit in an 18-8 win against Ibrahim Ameer.
In other U20 results, there were three 4-2 finishes in Las Vegas from Will Miller, Luke Uliano (started 3-0) and Class of 2023 signee Jeremiah Price (followed an opening-round loss with four straight wins). Kaden Keiser went 3-2 after claiming victories in his first two matches.
Cody Bond won two matches in the Senior freestyle division. Nicholas Grizales competed in both the U20 freestyle and U20 Greco-Roman brackets.
