App State Women’s Tennis to Play Texas State top Open Sun Belt Tournament

App State women’s tennis will face the fifth seeded team from the West Division, Texas State, on Thursday at 3 p.m. ET in the Opening Round of the Sun Belt Championships held in Peachtree City, Ga. The match will be streamed live on ESPN+.

The winner will face the top seed from the West Division in UTA on Friday at 3 p.m. in the quarterfinal round. App State finished 6-13 and 4-6 in Sun Belt play in head coach Ashleigh Antal’s first season at the helm.

App State and Texas State will face each other for the second time in the past three tournaments, with the Black and Gold claiming a 4-1 win in the first victory. The Apps head into the contest boasting two of the top doubles wins leaders, as María José Zacarias/Ksenia Aleshina and Sandra Anglesjö/Helena Jansen both own 10-3 records. Both duos lead the conference with 7-2 marks in conference action.

Zacarias is riding a four-match win streak in singles play going into Thursday. The senior is 7-7 on the season, highlighted by a 4-2 showing against Sun Belt foes. Jansen leads the team with with singles wins, while Aleshina also has seven victories. Both first-year Mountaineers have four conference wins under their belts.

Texas State is 5-12 on the season with a 0-7 record in Sun Belt competition. Hanah Kvapilova leads the team with a 13-2 mark in singles, while 12 of her wins came as the No. 1 in the lineup. R. Israel-Lewis/Hana Kvapilova’s 8-3 record leads the team in doubles.
