App State Women’s Tennis Sweeps Troy

App State Tennis remained unbeaten in the High Country this season after closing out an undefeated weekend with a 4-0 win over Troy on Sunday. The Mountaineers (8-5, 2-1 SBC) are now 6-0 at home this season, tying their amount of home wins from a season ago.

The Mountaineers secured the doubles point over the Trojans (7-6, 1-2 SBC) by going 2-1 in those matches. App State received wins from the No. 1 doubles pairing of Taya Powell/Maggie Pate with their 6-4 victory over Kristina Kukaras/Maria Guirguis and the No. 2 tandem of Olwyn Ryan-Bovey/Naledi Manyube, which swept Troy’s pairing of Olivia Elliot/Valeriia Avdeeva 6-0.

Powell got things rolling for App State in singles play. The Aussie defeated Maria Guirguis 6-4, 7-5 on Court 2. Pate battled her way to a 7-6 [7-3], 6-1 victory over Hagar Ramadan-Amin, as the No. 3 singles player helped App State secure a 3-0 lead over Troy.

Reigning Sun Belt Conference Player of The Week Savannah Dada-Mascoll wrapped things up with her 10th consecutive win via a thrilling 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 victory over No. 1 singles player Kristina Kukaras to clinch the match for App State.

App State will travel to ULM and Arkansas State for another set of road matches. The Mountaineers will face the Warhawks on Saturday and the Red Wolves the following day. App State will return home on March 29 to host Louisiana before hosting Texas State on March 30.
