App State Women’s Golf Finish Sun Belt Championship at LPGA International

In her Sun Belt Championship debut, freshman Ekaterina Prokhorova posted App State Women’s Golf’s low score in all three rounds on her way to a tie for 40th place at the LPGA International site.

Prokhorova finished at 17 over with a 76-78-79—233 total. She played her first 14 holes of the final round at 2 over and had a birdie on her 17th hole for the 13th-place Mountaineers (314-323-327—964).

ULM beat Texas State in a two-hole playoff to win the team title with a 16-over total over 54 holes on the par-72 layout, and Old Dominion’s Leah Onosato was the individual medalist with a 2-under total helped by a first-round 68.

Layla Meric (80-81-80—241) had App State’s second-best score in the final round and accounted for the team’s other top-50 finish. Shani Brynard also played in all three rounds, while Braelyn Pippin, Jacquelyn Taylor and Andrea Diaz competed in two rounds apiece.

Prokhorova led the way for the second straight day, posting a 78 in difficult conditions that contributed to only five golfers in the field posting under-par rounds.

Prokhorova was tied for 35th at 76-78—154. Meric (81), Brynard (82) and Diaz (82) also scored for App State.

The Mountaineers finished the second round in 13th place (314-323—637).

Prokhorova led App State with a first-round 76, followed by Brynard with a 77.

The other golfers contributing to the 13th-place team score of 314 were Meric and Pippin, who was tied for 26th place when she made the turn at 2 over.
