App State Women’s Golf Compete at Oyster Shuck Match Play in Charleston

App State Women’s Golf capped the Oyster Shuck Match Play event Tuesday with a head-to-head team victory to tie for fifth place in the eight-team field.

Making their spring debut for first-year head coach Brittany Dabule, the Mountaineers beat Tennessee Tech by a 3.0 to 1.0 score thanks to individual victories from Layla Meric (1-up win after being 4 down at the turn), Jacquelyn Taylor (2-up win) and Sara Adams (1-up win).

Ekaterina Prokhorova was tied through 15 holes of her match when play was stopped due to App State clinching the team victory. Makena Dubois, who had posted a 1-up victory Monday in a quarterfinal match against Radford, lost by a 3-and-2 count Tuesday.

App State’s other victory Monday against Radford came from Prokhorova, who earned a 1-up win at the top of the lineup. Meric rallied from 3 down to nearly win before her Radford opponent prevailed by a 1-up score, and then Meric completed a big comeback in her victory from the top spot in the lineup Tuesday.

Samford and Western Carolina were declared co-champions of the event, which was shortened from three matches to two due to inclement weather Monday.

The 2024 spring season is presented by the Hound Ears Club. App State returns to action March 11-12 at the Jackrabbit Invitational in Boulder City, Nev.
