The Sun Belt Conference has released an updated new women’s basketball conference slate for the 2020-21 season with a change in the schedule format.
App State will still play 18 conference games but the Sun Belt has gone to divisional play with the Black and Gold playing only East Divisional opponents. The East Division is made up of Coastal Carolina, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, South Alabama and Troy.
Appalachian plays each school four times on Fridays and Saturdays with the exception of Coastal Carolina, who the Apps face on Thursday and Saturday.
The Mountaineers start the conference schedule with six of their first eight games on the road. App State opens up league play against Troy on New Year’s Day and ending the weekend the following day on Jan. 2 against the Trojans.
Appalachian will hit the road to Statesboro to face Georgia Southern on Jan. 8 and 9 before hosting South Alabama on the 15th and 16th for its conference opener.
The following week, the Apps travel back to the Peach State to face Georgia State on Jan. 22 and 23.
App State ends its road schedule against South Alabama on Feb. 19 and the 20th and a week later hosts Georgia Southern the following weekend.
App will play at home the next two weekends starting with Troy (Jan. 29/30) and Georgia State (Feb. 5/6) followed by a road contest against Coastal Carolina on Feb. 11. The Chanticleers then travel to the High Country to face App State two days later.
The Sun Belt Conference Basketball Championships will continue to be played at two sites in Pensacola, Fla.. The top two seeds in each division will earn byes. First round games will be cross division (e.g., 3 Seed in West plays 6 seed in East).
Information regarding season and single-game tickets will be released at a later date.
