App State Track and Field Garners Five All-Conference Honors

Five Mountaineers earned All-Conference honors for their performances at the Sun Belt Outdoor Championships, the league announced Thursday. Junior Calbert Guest garnered first-team accolades, seniors Jonah Morris and Mariah Atwater secured second-team honors, and senior Jada Branch and junior Niejel Wilkins earned third-team nods.

Guest stopped the clock at 8:54.06 for a personal best and first-place finish in the men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase. He stands fourth in the App State all-time list for the event.

Morris clocked a personal best of 3:59.20 to place second in the men’s 1,500 meters while Atwater registered a second-place finish with a personal best of 54.41 in the women’s 400 meters, which keeps her at second in the App State all-time list.

Branch took third with a leap of 12.86m (42′ 2.25″) in the women’s triple jump. She ranks third in the App State all-time list for the event. In the men’s triple jump, Wilkins recorded a leap of 15.15m (49′ 8.5″) to place third. He ranks ninth in the App State all-time list for the event.

The NCAA East Preliminary Round is scheduled for May 24-27 in Jacksonville, Fla. The top-48 declared student-athletes in each individual event and top-24 declared relay teams will advance to the East Prelim competition. Accepted entries will be announced on NCAA.com at 1 p.m. on Thursday.

Currently, Branch ranks eighth in the women’s triple jump, junior Chris Wainscott ranks 40th in the men’s shot put, Guest ranks 42th in the men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase, and Wilkins ranks 45th in the men’s triple jump.
