App State Track and Field Competes at Duke Invitational

Juniors Chris Wainscott and Nathan Karl, along with sophomore Daiyanna Cooper, opened competition at the Duke Invitational in Durham, N.C. for the Mountaineers on Thursday.

Despite a weather delay, Wainscott placed eighth overall in the men’s discus with a personal best toss of 51.26m (168′ 2″), which moves him to fourth in the App State all-time list. Karl finished 12th with a mark of 47.20m (154′ 10″).

Wainscott posted another personal best, recording a toss of 57.57m (188′ 10″) to place second in his flight and 14th overall in the men’s hammer throw. Wainscott’s toss places him at ninth in the App State all-time list for the men’s hammer throw.

In the women’s hammer throw, Cooper recorded a personal best toss of 55.01m (180′ 5″), placing 17th overall and sixth in her flight. Cooper’s mark moves her to second in the App State all-time list, under the current record of 58.03m (190′ 5″) set by Nikole Simmons in 2006.

Competition at the Duke Invitational continues on Friday at 11 a.m. The meet will be available to stream on ACCNX on Friday and Saturday.
