App State Men’s Golf Finish Third at Season Opening Event

App State men’s golf opened the 2020 fall slate with a top-three team finish at the J.T. Poston Invitational Tuesday afternoon.

The effort marked the fifth top-three team finish for the Mountaineers in a span of just two seasons.

Although Chattanooga won both the team and individual titles, a total of five App State golfers placed in the top-15 or better on the player leaderboard. The Black and Gold also tallied the most birdies for the event, 65, and accumulated the second-most pars, 187, among all participating universities.

To open the invitational, App State posted a team round of 278, 6-under-par. The opening-round 278 was the fourth-lowest team round in program history. The Mountaineers went on to close out the invitational even-par as team with a final team tournament score of 852.

Sparked by an opening round of 68, Timothius Tirto Tamardi led the way to post the seventh top-10 finish of his collegiate career. With a 1-under-par showing (212), he tied for sixth individually, which is a career-best finish for the junior on the player leaderboards as a Mountaineer.

Senior Jake Lane, fifth-year senior Dylan Lukes, sophomore Addison Beam and junior transfer Justin Morgan all placed top 15 individually.

Lane finished 1-over-par with a final three-round score of 214 to go along with a career-high 15 birdies, tying for second in the category for the event.

Lukes, Beam and Morgan each carded a final tournament score of 216. Lukes cashed in on a round-two eagle to highlight his outing. Lukas Jönsson rounded out the Mountaineer team of six by placing tied for 21st with a 222 effort.

App State is scheduled to be back on the course Oct. 12-13 to compete in the Intercollegiate at the Grove, hosted by Middle Tennessee, from College Grove, Tennessee.
