App State head men’s basketball coach Dustin Kerns has announced that his program has partnered with Soldiers to Sidelines to provide an unprecedented opportunity at Fort Bragg later this summer.
On July 30, the App State coaching staff will provide current military service members and veterans with a first-of-its-kind coaching workshop. This will be the first basketball coaching seminar located on an active military base.
The free event will give registrants a great opportunity to learn some tips and tricks of coaching basketball. The event will take place at the Tolson Youth Center and lunch will be provided. The deadline to register is July 28.
Soldiers to Sidelines is on a mission to provide training and opportunities for various members of the military to become excellent coaches that will ultimately inspire, motivate and encourage others for years to come.
“Soldiers to Sidelines is honored to host our first basketball coaching workshop on a military installation with one of the most reputable college basketball programs in the nation,” said Founder and Executive Director Harrison Bernstein. “Coach Kerns and Appalachian State Basketball represent the core values of our military in coaching: Integrity, Honor, Work Ethic, Responsibility and High Performance. Through the knowledge of Coach Kerns and his staff, we will deliver an impactful coaching development experience that will have tremendous ripple effects in the North Carolina athletic communities.”
When presented with the chance to make history in such a special way, Kerns jumped at the opportunity.
“We are thrilled to be a part of this unique opportunity to partner with Soldiers to Sidelines,” Kerns said. “It is a great chance to honor those serving our great country by sharing knowledge about the game of basketball. We look forward to representing Appalachian State University and our basketball program on this prestigious military base and being the first college staff to do something like this.”
The partnership between Soldiers to Sidelines and App State formed very quickly.
“When we set out to put together a Coaches Workshop at Fort Bragg, our first call was to Coach Dustin Kerns and App State,” said Soldiers to Sidelines Director of Basketball Leigh Klein. “Coach Kerns and his staff are the consummate teachers of the game and a perfect partner for this immersive experience.”
