App State’s first nationally televised game inside the Holmes Convocation Center against the Auburn Tigers is officially a sellout.
Tipoff for the ESPN2 broadcast is set for 1 p.m. on Dec. 3. App State men’s basketball has not had a nationally televised home contest since the Mountaineers welcomed Davidson to Varsity Gym in February 2000.
This will be the first Holmes Center sellout since Steph Curry and the Davidson Wildcats came to Boone on Jan. 12, 2009. The Holmes Center has filled to capacity or beyond two previous times, with the other sellout crowd occurring in the venue’s first-ever game in 2000, when the Mountaineers welcomed No. 6 North Carolina to Boone to open the 8,325-seat building.
The Mountaineers are expecting more than 8,000 fans when Auburn, an SEC power with four NCAA appearances and one Final Four berth in the last five NCAA Tournaments, comes to town.
Students are expected to fill up nearly half the crowd on Dec. 3. Earlier this month, more than 4,000 students entered their names into a lottery for a chance to secure a ticket. Student lottery results are expected to be made public by Wednesday.
At halftime of the Auburn game, App State fans will also be treated to a special act that will be announced at a later date.
