Alexander County Sex Offender Jailed On Charge Of Violating Parole
74-year-old Garry Lewis Beckham of Stony Point was arrested Friday (October 13) by Alexander County Sheriff’s Officers. He was charged with felony parole violation. Beckham was on parole as a result of a 1999 conviction on sex offense charges.
On September 30, 1999, Beckham was convicted of one count of first-degree rape and two counts of indecent liberties with a minor in Alexander County. Following the conviction, he served 24 years and nine months in state prison before being released in May, 2022.
The offenses occurred in April, 1998. The victims whose ages were listed were nine and eleven-years-old at the time of the offenses. Beckham was required to be placed on the sex-offender registry for ten years upon his release from prison. He registered with the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office for a minimum of ten years.
Following Friday’s arrest, Beckham was incarcerated in the Alexander County Detention Center without bond. He remained in jail as of earlier today (October 17) and was still being held under no bond. No court dates were listed.
