Alexander County Schools Superintendent Presented Statewide Honor
A professional organization has recognized Alexander County Schools Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Hefner as the Superintendent of the Year. North Carolina Public Schools Maintenance Association (NCPSMA) honored Hefner Thursday (November 9) at a ceremony in Statesville.
Hefner started her career in Alexander County Schools shortly after graduating from Alexander Central High School. She first served in the district as a teaching assistant and bus driver. Through the years, Hefner taught math, served as assistant principal, and principal. She then moved to Central Office staff as the curriculum director, interim assistant superintendent, associate superintendent, and then superintendent since 2014.
The NCPSMA takes nominations yearly from members and the public. Maintenance Director Chris Campbell appreciates Hefner’s work for the system, saying her support “allows my department to provide safe and functional facilities for the students and staff of Alexander County Schools”. He continues saying, Hefner is committed to helping each department accomplish the district’s motto of “Children First.”
The NCPSMA was founded in 1959 and now keeps up to date with legislation affecting school building and maintenance projects. NCPSMA is made up of eight districts across the state. Hefner was honored with the statewide award.
