Alexander County Man Charged Following Reported Chase, Altercation With Police
37-year-old Michael Chad Rood of Hiddenite was arrested Sunday (July 9) by Alexander County Sheriff’s Officers. He’s charged with felony flee to elude arrest with a motor vehicle, misdemeanor counts of assault on a government official, injury to personal property, and resisting a public officer, along with traffic counts including reckless driving to endanger and speeding.
An Alexander County Sheriff’s Office Deputy attempted to stop a vehicle on Highway 64-90 in Hiddenite early Sunday morning. The driver reportedly failed to heed the blue lights and siren. A pursuit followed and ended in the Vashti Community. Michael Chad Rood was taken into custody following a reported altercation with officers. He allegedly assaulted a deputy and kicked a patrol vehicle before being arrested.
According to the North Carolina Department Of Adult Correction Offender Public Information website, Michael Chad Rood has multiple convictions dating back to 2007. He’s been convicted in Alexander, Wilkes, and Catawba Counties of various crimes including felonious restraint, felony larceny, and larceny after breaking & entering.
Rood was placed Alexander County Detention Center under $75,000 secured bond. He was not listed as an inmate as of earlier today (July 11). District Court dates are scheduled for July 31 and August 1.
