Alexander County Father & Son Charged With String Of Statutory Sex Offense Counts

A father and son have been charged with child sex crimes in Alexander County. On Tuesday (August 29), the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office arrested 35-year-old Cody Lynn Shumake of Taylorsville and charged him with 18 counts of felony statutory sexual offense with a victim 15-years-old or younger. He was placed in the Alexander County Detention Center under a $1,000,000 bond.

Shumake’s father, 56-year-old Randy Darryl Shumake was also charged with 18 counts of felony statutory sexual offense with a child 15 year-old or younger and felony indecent liberties with a child.

Randy Shumake has been held in the Alexander County Detention Center after being charged with the 2018 murder of 77-year old Jerry Vinson Hayes of Taylorsville. Hayes body was found in a wooded area off Robinette Road in the Little River Community on Thursday, August 9, 2018. Shumake was charged with the murder the next day by the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office.

The charges filed on Tuesday are related to events that allegedly occurred in 2018.
