A four-year-old child was shot Thursday morning (August 17) in Caldwell County. The Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office received a call at 10:41 a.m. Thursday regarding an accidental shooting at a residence off Rocky Road in Lenoir. According to police reports, the child was struck by a bullet when a gun that was being handled by a family friend accidentally discharged.

The child was airlifted to a regional medical facility and is expected to survive. The investigation is ongoing with the findings of that probe to be presented to the District Attorney.
