9/11 Ceremonies Scheduled In Hickory Metro

Today is September 11, it’s been 19 years since the terrorist attacks on New York and Washington and the related plane crash in Pennsylvania. Approximately 3,000 lives were lost on that day in 2001. Due to COVID-19, area municipalities will not be holding the customary commemorations.

Hickory will be holding a 9/11 ceremony on Union Square that will be limited to a small amount of invited guests. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, residents are encouraged to view the livestream on the city’s Facebook page, it was scheduled to be aired at approximately 8:45 a.m. today (September 11).

The Conover ceremony was scheduled for 8:30 a.m. today, in person at the Norman B. Coley Amphitheater at 361 Fifth Avenue SE, according to the city’s Facebook page. Attendees are asked to wear masks and maintain social distancing. In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be moved indoors to the nearby Conover Station.
