Hickory FC Dominates in Home Win
Hickory FC continued its strong run through the USL League Two South Atlantic Division on Wednesday night, cruising to a 4-0 victory over Tobacco Road FC and setting the stage for a massive top-of-the-table matchup this weekend.
Playing at Moretz Stadium, Hickory controlled the match from the opening whistle and scored in both halves to secure its eighth win of the season. The victory improved Hickory FC to 8-2-0 on the year and kept the club firmly in second place in the South Atlantic Division standings with 24 points.
Leo Souza opened the scoring early, finding the back of the net in the eighth minute to give Hickory a 1-0 advantage. The hosts continued to pressure the Tobacco Road defense throughout the first half and doubled the lead in the 23rd minute when James Lane finished a scoring opportunity to make it 2-0 heading into the break.
Holding a comfortable advantage, Hickory maintained possession and dictated play in the second half. Tomas Pollacchi added a third goal in the 77th minute, putting the match out of reach before Jonah Straube capped the evening with a goal in the 80th minute.
The four-goal performance marked one of Hickory’s most complete efforts of the season. The defense was equally impressive, posting a clean sheet and limiting Tobacco Road FC’s attacking opportunities throughout the night.
The win also extended Hickory’s recent surge. After suffering a setback earlier this month, the club has responded with four consecutive victories and continues to climb the league table at a crucial point in the season.
With the result, Hickory has scored 24 goals while allowing just 10 through its first 10 matches, good for a plus-14 goal differential. Only division-leading Charlotte Independence sits ahead of Hickory in the standings.
That sets up one of the biggest matches of the season on Saturday night at Moretz Stadium. Hickory FC will host Charlotte Independence in a battle between the top two teams in the USL League Two South Atlantic Division. Charlotte enters the weekend in first place with 26 points, while Hickory sits just two points behind in second, giving the contest major implications in the race for the division title and postseason positioning.
